Hinduism
Early History
When Hinduism was stared, is up to debate, but we do know that the first Hindus lived and practiced their religion in India.
Gods
Brahma is the creation god. It is though that he is the father of Manu, who is the father of human kind. He is part of the Trimurti or the three major gods in Hinduism that form the Hindu Trinity.
Vishnu is the persevere and maintainer of the trinity. He is usually drawn blue, with four arms, although some other sources say he's green or colorless with red eyes.
Although he is called The Destroyer, rides a bull, and practices polygamy, Shiva is also the god of art and yoga.
Hindu Philosophy
Atman is the soul or spirit of Hinduism. It is sometimes referred to as one true self.
Brahman is "the unchanging reality amidst and beyond the world." As you can see this is very hard to explain. Sometimes referred to as a form of bliss, Brahman is sometimes represented with a drop of water.
Consciousness bliss of Brahman, is not unlike the single God from mono-politic religious. A higher sence of bliss is very much like having a superior being to look up to.

Cows
Cows are sacred in Hinduism because one of the last steps in re-carnation before you become human.
Karma
Karma is the Hindu theory that you get what you diverse, you reap what you sew.
Symbols
The "aum" or "um" is thought to represent the sacred sound. Ofter used when someone is meditating.
The lotus flower represents beauty in Hinduism.
The Yantra is a symbol for the universe.
The Bindi is the dot worn in the middle of married women's forehead.
The Trishula is the weapon of Shiva has. It represents empire and force.
Beliefs
Hindus believe that the universe is forever going through endless creation and recreation.
Hindus believe in karma, that you get what's coming to you and that karma continues through your multiple lives.
Hindus believe in incarnation, and karma effects it.
Hindus believe in superior beings and gods.
Hindus believe that all life is sacred.
Important Events
900-600 BCE: Brahmanical religion develops, emphasizes social and ritual issues
800-300 BCE: First ideas on incarnation and karma are written.
5 BCE: Buddhism is formed out of Hinduism.
17-19 CE: Hindu Renaissance
1720: British start to take over India
1895: Vadanta society promotes independents for India and Hinduism.
1947: India is independent, but there are now religion conflicts in India due to more diverse population.
